WATERCOLOURING WITH....WATERCOLOUR PENCILS!

by Stacey Marsh Independent UK Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, March 05, 2021

Today I have some more Butterfly inspiration for you with the Brilliant Wings Dies, and a fun watercolour technique using the Watercolour Pencils (remember them?!)

I am soooo guilty of forgetting that we have TWO sets of Watercolour Pencils available to buy; they are sitting in my stash and I barely use them...why?  I have no idea because they really are so easy to use and give gorgeous results!

Starting with the Shimmery White Cardstock from the 2020/21 Annual Catalogue, I have added colour with 3 Watercolour pencils in Balmy Blue, Coastal Cabana and Night of Navy.  The great thing about these pencils is that you get a really soft looking finish, especially when you use them on the Shimmery White Cardstock!  Rather than taking the pencil to the card, I have used my Water Painter Brush to take the colour straight from the tip of the pencil and add to the card.  I find that using them this way gives a softer finish and you don't get pencil lines in your work either.

Once I have created my watercolour background, I have used the large Brilliant Wings Die to cut out my butterflies.

I have also cut out one of each of the intricate butterfies from a sheet of Basic White Cardstock as they coordinate with each one of the butterfly outlines that I have cut out with the large Butterfly Wings Die (so clever!).

I have layered each intricate butterfly over the coordinating watercolour butterfly, and attached with just a few dots of Multipurpose Liquid Glue down the middle of each butterfly.

For my card design, I have added a layer of the Butterfly Bijou Designer Series Paper under a layer of Basic White Cardstock and attached to my card front.  I have layered 3 completed butterflies and added my sentiment, keeping the details super simple and leaving those butterflies as the centre of attention!

I created these butterflies, and my card design during a recent Facebook Live demonstration which you can watch back on my Youtube channel below.  Don't forget to click subscribe so you don't miss out on future tutorials!

I'm often asked what tools do I use...well here are the basic tools that I simply couldn't craft without!
